Chelsea Public Schools Celebrates the Culmination 21-22 School Year

Friday, June 24, marked the end of the 2021-22 school year for Chelsea Public Schools. Despite an abbreviated final week with the Juneteenth holiday on Monday and a half-day on Friday, schools across CPS were full of activity and celebration. Schools conducted Moving On Ceremonies for their students, some celebrated Spirit Days, and others organized end-of-the-year surprises for kids who were leaving for the summer.
John Silber Early Learning Center
It was a busy week at the John Silber Early Learning Center. On Wednesday, the entire school participated in its dinosaur-themed Spirit Day. Kids wore their “Stomping into Summer” t-shirts, and enjoyed outdoor activities such as an inflatable slide, an obstacle course, and slush! On the last day of school, some kindergarten and all first grade classrooms conducted their Moving On Ceremonies! The school invited families to attend, and each classroom honored their students for their time at the ELC.
William A. Berkowitz Elementary School
The Berkowitz Elementary School recognized its students in fourth grade with a Moving On Ceremony on Thursday morning. Each classroom was recognized in an event in front of friends and family. The fourth graders received certificates in what was their penultimate day as an elementary school student in Chelsea. Then on Friday, the kids spent much of the day outside with their school mascot, “Berky the Bear”. Kids also were given popsicles by the staff!
Edgar Hooks Elementary School
On Wednesday morning, the Hooks Elementary School has its Moving On Ceremony for the fourth grade. The six fourth grade classes were celebrated in front of their parents, receiving certificates of achievement from their teachers. The last day of school saw the kids enjoy a special performance from Marcos Santos and his “Grooversity” Brazilian drumming ensemble.
George F. Kelly Elementary School
The Kelly Elementary School hosted not one, but two Moving On Ceremonies on Friday! First, the Kelly fourth graders gathered in front of family and friends to celebrate their last day of school as an elementary student. Shortly after, the sixth grade students who attend the Kelly as part of the Dual-Language Caminos Program has their Moving On Ceremony too.
Frank M. Sokolowski Elementary School
Thursday morning as saw the Sokolowski School recognize its fourth graders who will be moving on to middle school next year. Students received certificates, awards were distributed, and students from each classroom spoke in front of everyone in attendance about their favorite memories as a Sokolowski student. Then after the ceremony, students and staff enjoyed an outdoor celebration!
Browne Middle School
The Browne Middle School commemorated its graduating Eighth Grade class on Thursday morning with its own Moving on Ceremony. In front of friends and family, the eighth graders were recognized with certificates and awards. The party then moved outside where food and refreshments awaited the middle school students who are advancing to high school next year.
Morris H. Seigal Clark Avenue Middle School
On Wednesday afternoon, the Clark Avenue Middle School (CAMS) celebrated two Moving On Ceremonies to recognize its Eighth Grade class. The two events featured presentations from students and staff, and a speech from the Class President on his time as a CAMS student. Awards were distributed, and each student received a certificate of achievement to commemorate the moment of graduating from eighth grade.
Wright Science and Technology Academy
At the Wright Science and Technology Academy, eighth grade students celebrated their Moving On Ceremony in front of family and friends. Student awards were announced, and each student received a graduated certificate for completing their time as a middle school student. The event as included musical performances, and a speech from a current Chelsea High School student and alumnus of the Wright Middle School.
Chelsea Virtual Learning Academy
On Friday afternoon, the Chelsea Virtual Learning Academy (CVLA) gathered at Mary O’Malley Park for a commemorative celebration after the end of their first school year. Staff members and students gathered for a meal together as well as fun and games at the park. The staff also hosted an awards ceremony for the students as kids received certificates to recognize their work over the past school year!
